Small Bathroom Design Ideas

Posted on

One of the things with which many people struggle is a small bathroom space. This room should be one of the most comfortable in the house. After all, it's where you relax in the tub after a long, hard day at work. If you feel that your room could do with a little pizzazz, you need to get started right away. There are some simple ideas you can use that will make your bathroom look a little larger than it is. Take a look at these tips for some inspiration.

1. Try a rustic design

Sometimes, you don't want to do much to your bathroom at all. If you have an old house, you can make use of a chic, rustic design. For example, if you already have rough wood flooring, you can keep it as it is. Sand it down a little, but leave the floor bare. If you try and do too much with this area, it could end up looking a mess. You can also add some stylish wooden pieces, such as a vintage vanity cabinet.

2. Add extra storage

One of your major challenges will always be finding places to store things. You have loads of things you need to keep in your bathroom, from towels to toothbrushes. One of the easiest things you can do is create some extra storage. If you have a freestanding tub, for example, you could use some boxes to create room beneath it. You can get timber boxes at most home decor stores. The most important thing is that you get creative about the way you create extra space.

3. Make use of mirrors

If you want to make the room appear larger than it is, you have a simple solution. Using large mirrors in the room will make it look spacious and bright. Of course, people normally have a mirror above their sink. You could go one step further and create a large mirror wall. That way, the glass will catch the sunlight each day, and make the room look incredible.

4. Try out some optical illusions

Aside from the mirror trick, which is one optical illusion, there are some other ideas you might try. When it comes to decorating your walls, you can use horizontal lines as the central decoration. This approach means that your bathroom will look longer than it is. The lines will draw your attention when you walk into the room. That means that the room will look rather a lot bigger than it is.

5. Make use of the height

Is your room tall? If you are lucky enough to have high ceilings, there is a lot you can do. One of the best things you can do is use shelves to make the room look big. This idea will also help you solve any of your storage issues at the same time. Put the shelves as high as possible (so that you can still reach them).

What do you think of these ideas? Have we missed any brilliant ones that you would use?
